July 2026 Interagency Meeting – Highlights
July’s Interagency Meeting centered on workforce development, community partnerships, public art, and new opportunities to strengthen Mesquite’s quality of life.
- Workforce Development – Nevada’s Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation is expanding employer partnerships in Mesquite to connect businesses with qualified job seekers and on-the-job training opportunities. The group also discussed a new state program that allows qualified foreign-trained physicians to become licensed in Nevada, helping address the state’s healthcare workforce shortage.
- Mesquite Regional Community Fund – The first round of grant applications has closed, with nine proposals submitted. A second grant cycle is planned for October, and recipients will be announced after the review process is complete.
- Public Art & Tourism – George Gault shared updates on new public art projects, including a mural honoring communications pioneer Barbara Benedict, and discussed plans to expand Mesquite’s Art & History District with walking tours, public art, historical sites, and improved visitor amenities.
- MesquiteLife.com – Agencies were encouraged to update their Resource Directory listings, submit events to the Community Calendar, and share news and success stories so residents can more easily discover local programs, services, and activities. New ideas were also discussed for highlighting Mesquite’s parks, public art, historical sites, and other attractions for residents.
